We often think that if we just make this much or just buy this house then we will truly be happy. -.-.- But as life goes on and people I am close to grow old, I reminded daily that "stuff" does not matter. We can live in a big house full of stuff but none of that matters when we are gone. -.-.- All that matters is finding the beauty from ashes. What beautiful light did they share with you and how can you continue to spread that light? -.-.- This light in your own life does not shine brighter when you have more material things, sometimes those things can even dim the light. Take time to think about your own life and if those material things bring you joy. If not, then maybe its time to get back to the bare necessities. -.-.- I am still learning about "adulting" but I have noticed a lot of what the world tells me about being an adult and "making it" in the world contrasts what I am learning as I spend time with God and in meditation. Sometimes I get the idea in my head that I need more to be satisfied with my life or I need to look a certain way or reach a certain pay grade. In order to fight that I try to start every morning with a short meditation where I sit quietly and pray. You can try this if you'd like for just 10 minutes and see what you think. Lina Hall has a great Positive Thinking Meditation that I use a lot.
As I developed my 360 Plan with a holistic approach to health and wellness I read a lot of studies on finding long lasting happiness. One of the longest studies conducted on adults found out the three key lessons about happiness. It was very interesting to see that none of the adults studies were based on material things or even cholesterol levels but rather their satisfaction found in their close relationships. If you are into scientific studies like these then check out Psychiatrist Robert Waldinger's Ted Talk . This continued to solidify the need to address mental health as well as physical health. An easy start can be with morning meditations, and even starting to write in a journal every day. I have a gratitude journal that I write in whenever I get into a self-loathing or "poor me" kind of mood and I will read each thing listed in my gratitude journal and then add three new ones to my list.
